The aims of the II Vascular Surgery Unit are the
prevention and
cure of circulatory system diseases.
From the first visit in the clinic, to the operations performed in the day hospital, to the
ward admissions and the more complicated surgery, the activities of the team are focused on
the prevention and cure of all vascular diseases.
Optimization of the path from diagnosis to therapy, maximum interaction with other
specialities and attention to communications with patient and relatives are the central
principals of the II Vascular Surgery Unit.
For the arterial diseases, in line with the most recent international
guidelines, treatment is provided for
pathologies of aorta, carotid, lower limb arteries, renal and other visceral
arteries.
Open
surgery and
endovascular surgery are performed for
aneurysms and for the
obstructive pathology of the
thoracic aorta,
abdominal aorta and the
visceral arteries.
Operations for
revascularization of the lower limb arteries are performed with surgical
technique, endovascular technique or a combination of the two.
Both traditional and endovascular techniques are used for the
carotid or other
upper arteries.
Close collaboration with interventional radiologists has enriched the experience of both
specialists, vascular surgeon and radiologist, enabling us to obtain the best results in the
diagnosis and treatment of vascular pathologies.
For
varicose veins the treatment is performed in the
day hospital, based on an active program which has been in place for several
years. Even if the stay in hospital is for a short period of time, maximum safety and assistance is
provided to the patient.
In collaboration with oncological surgeons other
major venous surgeries are performed, especially those involving the cava
vein.
For the patients undergoing haemodialysis with
difficult vein access, we perform complex vein accesses, as agreed with
colleagues of the Dialysis Unit.
For all pathologies, each step in the path from diagnosis to treatment is
discussed with
patient, who is
actively involved in the choice of treatment.
